LAKOTA OPTIMISTS SELECT LAKOTA EAST TEENS OF THE MONTH
The Lakota Optimist Club selected Lakota East Lisa Hilliard and Chen Wu as Teens of the Month for September and October respectively. Lisa is the daughter of Carol and George Hilliard. Chen is the son of Shengde Wu and Min Li.
Lisa Hilliard's activities reflect a wide variety of fine arts, literary arts and community service. Lisa has been an active member of the Lakota East Thunderhawk Marching Band for the past two years and also participates in the Symphonic Winds program. The focus of her musical interest and expertise is the flute, which she has played for the past seven years. Lisa is a contributor the student magazine "The Spark", and also serves as the secretary for the Spanish Club. To round out her school involvement activities, Lisa rolls up her sleeves to assist with the set construction for the spring musical.
Ms. Hilliard's community service efforts include performing in the church orchestra at Christ's Church in Mason, tutoring at Hopewell Elementary, volunteering at Christ Hospital and organizing the student campaign for the Lakota Schools bond issue / tax levy.
The Lakota Optimists are proud to recognize the diverse talents of Lisa Hilliard and name her as the Lakota East Teen of the Month for September.
Chen Wu's activities include participation in, "The Spark" student magazine, Mu Alpha Theta where Chen serves as the junior class representative, serving as treasurer of the French Club and he also serves as regional senator for the Ohio - Kentucky area of Junior Statesmen of America. Chen has also been a member of the Thunderhawk Marching Band, the Academic Quiz Team and the Lakota East Mock Trial Team. A highlight of his Lakota East experience to date would be his Junior Statesmen of America trip to Washington D.C. last year where he met a former Clinton administration press secretary.
Chen's hobbies are centered on his enthusiasm for aviation and his interest in the literary arts. Chen has already been widely recognized for his award winning compositions.
