''Why would I join another activity?
I am too busy right now!''

Does this sound like your thoughts?  It is certainly a valid concern.  We are all getting more and more busy and tend to cherish the free time we do have.  So why become an Optimist?  Here are some reasons, in no particular order...

, Our goal is to help the youth of our community.  How can you go wrong with that?
, We are NOT a high cost club.  Our annual dues are $80.00 and most of that goes to our National Organization to cover insurance and other organization wide programs.
, We don't wear silly hats.
, We meet at a time that is very unlikely to conflict with anything else you are involved in.  We meet at the Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty in the Union Centre area of West Chester every Saturday from 8:00 to about 9:30 in the morning.  We have donuts and coffee at every meeting!
, We produce the largest youth sporting event in the area.  The 2006 'Run for Youth' had over 700 participants!
, 100% of the money we raise goes back to the youth of the Lakota Area.
, We do not collect money from our members to fund the activities that the club supports.  All money comes from our fundraising activities.
, We have interesting speakers at meetings.  We try to have a guest speaker about once a month.  For a list of recent speakers, click here.
, Our meetings are a great place to find out what is going on in the West Chester-Liberty area.
, We recognize a 'Junior of the Month' from both Lakota East and Lakota West High School each month.  This is a great opportunity to find out what is happening in the schools, and will DEFINITELY keep you up to date on the activities of Mu Alpha Theta!
, We produce an annual 'Oratorical Contest'.  This program has Junior High students presenting speeches, competing to go on to regional and state competitions.
, We honor a 'Student of the Year' from both Lakota High Schools.  The pool of applicants for this honor is the group of 'Juniors of the Month' from the previous year.  The winners are truly spectacular young people and are rewarded with a scholarship from our club!
, We support some great local youth groups.  LSO, PYO, CPAL, West Chester Soccer, Shawnee Robotics Club, Reach Out Lakota, Lakota gym teachers, the Lakota East Spark Magazine, and the Lakota West Voice newspaper are a few of the organizations that we have supported recently.
, We are a great place to meet your neighbors and community members.  We are a diverse group and lots of fun!
