Lakota Optimists Name Teens of the Month

Robert Johnson of Lakota West and Jamie Peters of Lakota East were selected by the Lakota Optimist Club as Junior Teenagers of the Month for January.  Robert, son of Darlene and Bob Johnson, is extremely involved in Lakota West's fine arts program, where he participates in a number of instrumental music offerings.  Giving evidence of his leadership abilities, he has earned the position of section leader for the Firebird Marching Band and as the junior class representative to the Firebird Marching Band Council.  Robert's musical talents are on display in the Lakota West Jazz Band, the Symphonic Winds, the Jazz Ensemble and his own band "Every 6".  His talents in the musical field have been recently rewarded by his selection to the Ohio State Band. He also enjoys participation in Lakota West's Mock Trial program as well as the Spanish Club.

His volunteer activities include serving as a "house host" at Homerama, working at the Kroger Senior Golf Classic, working on a number of band fundraising efforts and donating musical performances for Young Life group functions.  Given all his varied musical interests and volunteer activities, Robert still maintains an "A" average in his course of studies.  In the future, it would not be surprising to see Robert pursuing a career as a professional musician.

Jamie, daughter of Terry and Pam Peters, is another outstanding student with an interesting blend of challenging activities.  She is an accomplished athlete, participating on both the varsity football cheerleading squad and Lakota East's competition cheerleading squad.  She is an active member of the Mu Alpha Theta math honor club and is thoroughly enjoying her elementary student interaction in the Peer Counseling program.  In her spare time, she also is a member of the Spanish Club and is involved in the planning for the 2001 Lakota East prom.  Her community volunteer efforts include working in a local nursing home and a number of activities sponsored through "Young Life" and her Bethany United Methodist Youth Group.  Jamie is quite accomplished in the classroom, maintaining an "A+" average.  Her future goals may very well lead her into the field of medicine.

The Lakota Optimists are proud to recognize the efforts and excellence of Robert Johnson and Jamie Peters by selecting them as "Teens of the Month" for January
